Saturday, August 7th, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Indian Mound and Artifact Tour led by Dr. Eric Ratering and coordinated by the Green Team. Total biking distance (round trip) will be about 6 miles. The ride will begin at Sunset Park at the east end of the lake and be ready to bike at 9 am. After some introductory comments about various nearby sites, local Indian history expert, Dr. Eric Ratering, will lead the bike tour south along Cty. Rd. A to Spring Grove Rd and finishing short of Horner's Road. Prior to heading to Spring Grove Rd, participants will pass by Sugar Island, Silver Point and Mitchell's Glen Conservancy Partnership Properties and learn about their roles in Native American history. After the guided tour is concluded, bikers can return to the park or continue biking on their own. Make sure your bikes are in good working condition. bikers will be on roads with vehicle traffic, so good biking etiquette and cautions should be excercised. Childred under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants should bring your own bikes, water, snacks, spare tubes and equipment. PLEASE wear HELMETS. This event is free and open to the public. The bike tour distance will total about 5 miles and finish about 11:00 am. Reservations are not necessary, but appreciated. Green Lake Yacht Club hosts the 59th Annual Luncheon and Style Show on August 9th The Green Lake Yacht Club will host its annual Luncheon and Style Show on Monday, August 9th, at the Heidel House Resort on beautiful Green Lake. The event has been a summertime favorite for over 50 years. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a delicious warm-weather luncheon at 12:30 p.m. During the luncheon, fashions from Hamilton's Ladies Apparel of Berlin and Ripon, Only Her of Ripon, Twister of Princeton and the Gilded Lily, Ltd., Oshkosh, will be modeled by Yacht Club members. The models will walk throughout the dining area so everyone will have a good view of the clothes and accessories. Door prize and raffle winners will also be announced during the luncheon. Many area businesses and individuals have generously provided an interesting variety of prize items such as a Watertube from Norton's Dry Dock, gift certificates from Norton's Restaurant, and Wine and Liquor baskets. Large prizes, such as a cruise for 50 people aboard the Heidel House yacht, Escapade, will be featured in the silent auction. Silent auction winners will be announced during the event. The Green Lake Yacht Club, founded in 1894, promotes the sport of sailing and hosts regattas on Big Green Lake. The style show is its major fundraising event. Proceeds benefit the Green Lake Sailing School, which provides sailing instruction for children and adults. Tickets for the annual Luncheon and Style Show are $18 for adults and $10 for children. They are available at the Green Lake Chamber of Commerce office on Mill Street, open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Advance tickets are required. Saturday, September 4th, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Hike the Winnebago and Hammer's Trails sponsored by the Green Team. Enjoy a walk on the trails in the two newest Conservancy Partnership Properties. Walk both Hammer's Trail (in the Assembly Creek and Springs Conservancy) and the historic Winnebago Trail along the shore of Green Lake (Winnebago Trail Preserve). Both of these properties were purchased in 2009. Participants should meet at the Hammer's Trail trail head, located a short distance southwest of the Tea House at the Green Lake Conference Center (at the corner of Hillside Rd and Log Cabin Rd). There will be about 3+ miles of walking, encountering a few rolling hills and one relatively steep descent. Participants should bring their own water, snacks, good hiking shoes, and be ready to walk at 8:30. The event is free and open to the public. 2010 Wisconsin State Chili Cookoff Championship The 2010 Wisconsin State Chili Cookoff Championship sponsored by the International Chili Society will be held once again in Green Lake, WI on September 11 at Deacon Mills park. Approximately 40 cooks will start cooking their facorite recipes beginning at 11:00 am. Spectators can enjoy the festive atmosphere mingling with the chefs and sampling their salsas and other hot items. Chili sampling begins at 3 pm when the judges will determine who the new champion is. First place nets $750.00 and the opportunity to compete at the world championship in Charleston, WV for a prize of $25,000. The Green Lake Rotary Club will once again provide everyone with a local DJ and live entertainment provided by the Yellowhammers starting at noon. As always, the Rotary will be selling their own delicious chili along with brats, dogs, nachos and lots of cold beverages.
